This Althouse post captures something I saw a few years back. In this Althouse post, she nails a Professor who "rebuts" a description of a "mob" and "violence" insisting they were just well-motivated protesters who pushed past employees. She basically points out that his "rebuttal" actually supports the original description and notes that simply because he supports the protesters he overlooks their criminal behavior.
When I was in law school I dated a woman who thought the Palestinians were terrorists. Not all of them, of course, but certainly the ones engaging in suicide bombings, missile launches, etc. HOWEVER, her support for the IRA was 100% because they were just trying to get their (and her) homeland back from the British, no matter how many pubs they blew up or how many innocent people were killed.
